Screen recording for Mac & Windows

Record the screen.
Keep the sound.

QuickTime records your screen but not the sound your computer plays.
CAPTRIX records both: clean stereo, microphone only when you want it, and ready to trim when you stop.

The one thing QuickTime can’t do — built into CAPTRIX

Online classes, meeting replays, tutorials, game clips: you want the video’s own sound, not the sound of your room.

Nothing to learn. The details are handled.

Press record to start, press stop and it’s saved. CAPTRIX takes care of the rest.

Full screen or any area

Drag out the area you want, resize it with eight handles, or move the whole frame. CAPTRIX remembers your last area, and with several displays you choose which one to record.

Your computer’s sound, untouched

You get the stereo sound that’s actually playing in the video, music or meeting. Echo cancellation, noise suppression and auto gain are built for microphones, so they’re all off and your music is never mistaken for noise.

The tools stay out of the shot

The control panel, the area selector and the red recording frame never appear in your video. What you record is exactly what you wanted, with no cleanup afterwards.

Saved as you record

Video is written to disk while you record instead of piling up in memory. The file is finished when you press stop, and it never overwrites a file you already have.

MP4 that plays anywhere

Standard MP4 (H.264 video and AAC stereo) that opens on Mac, Windows, phones and editing apps. Choose 30 or 60 fps. Hardware encoding is used when your graphics chip has it, with an automatic software fallback.

Stays on your computer

Recording and editing happen entirely on your machine, and your videos never pass through a server. You choose the folder they’re saved in.

Built-in editing

No second app. Trim it right here.

Cut the setup at the start and the pauses in the middle, or split one long recording into several short clips. Press Edit when you stop recording, or open any video on your computer.

  • Accurate to the frame. Pause on a frame, press S, and the next clip starts exactly on that frame.
  • Untick what you don’t need. Unticked clips aren’t exported, and if you cut in the wrong place you can merge two neighbouring clips back together.
  • One file per clip. Clips are saved next to the original and numbered automatically. A matching name gets (2) added, so nothing is overwritten.
  • The original is never changed. Editing only reads the source video, so you can always start over. Works with MP4, MOV and M4V.

Questions

Will it record my voice or the room around me?

Not by default. The microphone is off every time you open CAPTRIX, so only the sound your computer plays is recorded. Turn on “Microphone” when you want narration; computer audio and microphone each have their own volume, adjustable even while recording.

Why does it ask for permission the first time?

On a Mac, macOS asks every screen recorder for “Screen & System Audio Recording” permission. Allow it once and you won’t be asked again.

Can I record for a long time?

Yes. Video is written to disk as you record, so memory use doesn’t grow with the length. How long you can record mostly depends on your free disk space.

Can editing damage my original video?

No. Editing only reads the original. Each clip is saved as a new file next to it, and the original is never changed.

Does it work on an Intel Mac?

Yes. The Mac version is universal and installs on both Apple Silicon (M1 and later) and Intel Macs running macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.
